Anahita has scheduled an Atlantic crossing for the end of May 2011 (around the 20th) and can welcome aboard two guests for the following legs:

• First leg, Caribbean to Gibraltar: 
• Ports: Departure would be from either St. Thomas, St. Martin, or Antigua to Gibraltar, with a 3-day stop in the Azores.
• Duration: 30 days.
• Cost: $5000/guest, all inclusive except bar. While in port in the Azores, only continental breakfast will be served and no other food is included in the charter fee.

• Second leg, Gibraltar to Montenegro:
• Ports: Gibraltar to Budva, Montenegro, with no stops
• Duration: 11 days.
• Cost : $3000/guest, all inclusive except bar.

It is fair to say that -- having sailed only in the Mediterranean and never in “Proper” oceans -- I was somewhat worried regards to crossing the Atlantic, my journey into the unknown! There are many stories to be told about four guys on a 3,228 mile, 29-day transatlantic crossing, but the one that strikes me as being the best is meeting the Anahita captain, Bijan. Myself an owner of a 1980 38’ Shannon cutter ketch with two transatlantic crossings, I would say this crossing (12/01/09 -12/29/09) was one of the easiest of the three. As a captain you should know & be able to diagnose every sound emanating from your boat, understand & never chance your boat's abilities under all sea conditions, & have an ability to take command of all crew situations. I can say from doing this trip with Bijan that he is aware of all of these situations, even while asleep. The boat is equipped with two types of communication with the land via sailmail, an email service, & satellite telephone. I had been in contact through sailmail with my family & thereby kept them informed as to where the boat was & that all was as well. Now as for luxury, I can truly say there is nothing missing in accommodations or entertainment (Plasma TV for evening movies). My room was large, airy, & comfortable for two & extremely large for one. Of course, it has a head with shower with enough hot water to keep you happy. The galley was a delight to work in with a three-burner stove & oven that was easy to handle & make delicious hot evening meals. We even made fresh bread in the electric bread maker. Over all the Anahita was a delight to spend time on & would give anyone a great time to remember.

What a wonderful opportunity of an adventure charter this will be for 2-4 lucky people.  We love passages. It is so cool to look out and just see water all the way out to the horizon... Of course, you'll see the occasional ship and flotsam can get quite exciting.  Maybe you will even catch a nice fish for dinner on your way!

2011 BVI Wreck Week - Promenade cabin week special event!

The charter yacht Promenade, a spacious 65-foot trimaran that accommodates up to 10 guests, announced that they will be participating in BVI Wreck Week which is taking place May 28 - June 4, 2011. This week is open to cabin bookings.

This is the third year that the dive operators and the BVI Tourist Board have teamed together to put on fun diving and activities, both on the water and on shore.

Your BVI Wreck Week charter will include 7 nights aboard Promenade, a fully air conditioned, 65-foot trimaran with a beam of 35 feet... a very stable platform.  The charter fee includes all on-board buffet meals, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, wine with dinner, all diving, and other water sports including fishing, waterskiing, kayaking.

The style of diving on Promenade will be casual. If you are a photographer, please feel free to go at your own pace. If you want a divemaster to lead you, follow Promenade's crew member. If you prefer diving by yourself, after a thorough briefing on the site, go right ahead. If YOU want to get up very early in the morning and jump in the water (as we tend to anchor over dive sites because of night dives this week) feel free to do so, as long as a crew member knows that you are in the water.


Package details:

• 7 nights' accommodation aboard Promenade (Saturday to Saturday). The first night is on "sleep aboard" terms (See "Day One" in sample itinerary, below)
• All food and beverages on the yacht, including wine with dinner, cocktail hour (for those not night diving), beer and soda.
• Unlimited diving featuring the wrecks of the BVI, including a minimum of 3 dives on the wreck of the RMS Rhone (including a night dive).
• Includes all tank fills
• BC's and regs are available at an extra cost for those who would like rent, rather than bring their own gear

PROMENADE'S SAMPLE ITINERARY FOR BVI WRECK WEEK

Saturday, May 28 through Saturday, June 4, 2011

This is a sample itinerary ONLY. We have two wrecks on Anegada Reef, the Parametta and the Rocus, that we will dive if the weather conditions allow. We do, however, guarantee to hit as many wrecks as we can in the time as we can and to do unlimited diving.

Day One: Board Promenade anytime after 4 pm at Village Cay Marina in Roadtown. The first night will be spent on dock, allowing you to participate in any kick-off parties, and you can choose to have dinner and breakfast at any of our local restaurants. (This is a "sleep aboard" night so tonight's dinner and tomorrow's breakfast services are NOT included in the package price).

Day Two: Promenade will serve a light lunch while sailing over to the wreck of the FEARLESS outside Great Harbor on Peter Island to do our first wreck dive. We will anchor for the evening at Little Harbor on Peter Island.

Day Three: After breakfast, we will dive Carrot Rock on the outside of Peter Island, one of our favorite dive sites, with pinnacles reaching from 70 feet up to the surface. Lunch will be at White Bay at Peter Island with time for a beach excursion or snorkeling trip before we dive “Brown Pants” on the outside of Norman Island, or Santa Monica Rock (so named for the Santa Monica that hit the pinnacles here on April 29, 1783 and subsequently sank at Water Creek on St John). We will anchor for the night at Privateer Bay on Norman Island. This anchorage is also known as the Caves at Treasure Point and the setting of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.

Day Four: After a snorkel before breakfast with all the Glassy Eyed Sweepers in the caves, we will take a short hop over to the Indians (so named as they look like an Indian's feathered headdress from a distance), where we will do a dive before sailing up to Salt Island for lunch. After hearing the history of the wreck of the Rhone, we will dive the Rhone in the afternoon. We'll have an after-dinner SCUBA to watch the turtles sleeping underneath the wreck, and see lobsters and crabs wandering around. This, bar none, is not only the best wreck dive in the Caribbean, but also in the Top 5 Dives of the World. We will anchor overnight on Salt Island.

Day Five: Up and in the water for an early pre-breakfast dive before anyone else has a chance to disturb the wreck. This will cap off our SCUBA diving on the RMS Rhone. Additional wrecks planned for our diving agenda today: the Beatta, the Inganess, the Marie L, and the Pat.

Day Six: Weather permitting, we sail out to the wreck of the CHIKUZEN, our second most famous wreck. We will dive the Chikuzen before lunch and again after lunch before taking a leisurely sunset sail into Muskmelon Bay on Guana Island, one of our favorite deserted anchorages. Or, perhaps we will head out to the Rocus and the Parametta? It all depends on the weather! A night dive is planned for those interested.

Day Seven: After a breakfast spent watching the pelicans circling over this bay filled with a gazillion bait fish, we will go around to the outside to dive Grand Central Station. Grand Central Station is so named for the many fish that converge around here, and it is capped up by a spectacular large cave that goes through the island at about 60 feet. Perhaps this afternoon will be a good time to visit the Baths?

Day Eight: Sadly, it is time to sail back to the marina, disembark and leave paradise, albeit with great memories. We will be back in the marina by mid-morning so, for those divers with flights that leave later on in the day, your luggage can be stored while you shop and explore Roadtown.

Located about nineteen miles east of Puerto Rico and eight miles north of Vieques, Culebra is the smallest of the inhabited Spanish Virgin Islands. She is seven miles long and 3 miles wide. Her many beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world.

Culebra is an arid island, having no rivers or streams. She gets her water from Puerto Rico via Vieques. Because of the lack of run-off from streams and rivers, Culebra boasts crystal clear waters with sixty feet of visibility on a bad day.

Culebra is an island municipality under the domain of Puerto Rico, which has been under the protection of the United States, since its annexation from Spain in 1898. In 1909 the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge was established. The refuge takes in over one thousand four hundred acres of land and is well known both as a nesting area for numerous seabirds, as well as the endangered leatherback turtle and Culebra giant anole.

Culebra has about three thousand residents. The quiet, unspoiled island has little to offer in nightlife, except for a quiet, safe walk in the moonlight or the occasional sound of guitar music from one of her few night spots. The island has little crime and very little to do, but relax at the beach or your favorite watering hole. The snorkeling and scuba diving around Culebra are outstanding. Hard and soft corals abound in the shallows and magnificent reefs encircle the island. Tropical fish and other sea life abound. The depths rarely exceed one hundred feet.
