Charter Yacht Drumbeat Includes Diving For Everyone

We spoke with Vince from Drumbeat this morning and Vince, Linda & Kirk would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season.

Drumbeat includes diving for certified & non-certified divers

Drumbeat is crewed by the professional team of owners, Vince and Linda Stracener. They have a passion for sailing and a commitment to excellence. The beauty of the ocean will be shared through their stories and lived through experience. Their attention to detail will ensure a spectacular vacation. Whether or not your desire is to kick up your heels, dive till you drop, or just relax at a secluded palm lined beach, Vince and Linda, along with long time crewmember Kirk, will make all your dreams come true.

The Virgin Islands really does have it all when it comes to Scuba diving: sea temperatures in the 80's, spectacular views, and coral reefs populated by an abundance of sea creatures from octopus to sea turtles. Drumbeat's knowledgeable and friendly crew will make certain you experience Virgin Islands' Scuba diving the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

Drumbeat's crew: Kirk, Linda, Vince

Your captain, Vince, is a PDIC Licensed Instructor. Scuba diving is included in the cost of the charter, even if you are not a certified diver. For non-certified divers, a Discover Scuba/Resort course will allow you to dive up to 30 feet with your instructor. If you wish to become certified, no problem! Do the book and pool work at home and finish up with a complimentary Referral Course on Drumbeat where you will complete your qualifying check-out dives for your Open Water Diver certification.

Linda is well known in the charter fleet as an excellent chef.  How would you like to start you day with...
  • Eggs Benedict: Hot buttered English muffin, Canadian-style bacon, and poached eggs are topped by a heavenly homemade hollandaise sauce. Served with seasoned home fries.
  • Almond Stuffed French Toast: Thick slices of sweet cinnamon bread filled with almond cream cheese, and drizzled with warm blackberry syrup. Served with hot, crisp bacon.
  • Peach Blintz: Thin crepes filled with a blend of sweet cheeses and juicy peaches, then finished off with fresh peach syrup.
  • Have it your way Omelet: A fluffy three egg omelet made to order filled with whatever your little heart desires.
  • Or, of course, you can just have a bowl of cereal if that's what you wish. It is YOUR charter and meals are prepared to your preferences... Although, I love Eggs Benedict... Yes, please, Linda... I'll have another!
And, everyone loves Kirk.  He's been crewing on Drumbeat since 1999! Here's a couple of comments from charter guests we've had aboard:
  • Compliments to Kirk the ninja. He manages to make sure the that stuff appears and disappears while being invisible himself, and making sure everything works.
  • The crew was more than helpful - they waited on us hand and foot. The women tried to make the beds one morning and Kirk had already taken care of it. Kirk was always two steps ahead of the well intentioned wives, who felt compelled to help (they are not used to relaxing like we did).

Enjoy a sundowner!

There's more to do besides diving and eating! Drumbeat has an 18-foot dinghy with 90HP motor, waterskis, wakeboard, tube, kayaks, rope swing, fishing gear, snorkel equipment... or relax in the shaded cockpit or in the hammock and read or listen to some tunes... or check out the beach... endless possibilities :)

Drumbeat is a 72-foot Irwin ketch with a crew of three. Drumbeat is fully air conditioned and accommodates up to 8 guests in 4 double cabins, each with private ensuite head/shower. A great choice for families, group of friends, and honeymooners too!

Give us a call or drop us a line.  Let's get you aboard Drumbeat this season for a well-deserved vacation.  What's not to like?

Drumbeat wins BVI Stamp Contest

We asked Drumbeat if they had any news to share with our readers:

Hi Sheila & Bob

Actually yes... something has happened! My BVI stamp finally came out.

Two years ago, the BVI Reef Society held a photo contest for the new BVI postage stamps. I submitted a picture that I took of a turtle, along with several others, and my turtle won! They did a series of five stamps and my photo was picked for one of them...

Woo Hoo!

Linda
Congratulations, Linda.  That is quite an honor! I bet you are sending lots of BVI postcards :)

Here's a link for info about the British Virgin Islands Coral Reef Stamp Collection series.

RECIPE from Charter Yacht Drumbeat - Chocolate Turtle Tart

A while back, I asked several of our favorite charter yachts for recipes to share in our newsletter.

Here is one from Linda of s/v Drumbeat...

Linda didn't have a photo of this dessert so we are using a picture from Govida.com

CHOCOLATE TURTLE TART

CRUST:
  • 1 ¾ cups pecans, toasted
  • 1/3 cups sugar
  • ¼ cup (½ stick) unsalted butter, melted & cooled

FILLING:
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 12 ounces measured semisweet chocolate (per Linda this is about 1 ½ cups)

TOP LAYER:
  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup whipping cream

CRUST:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Finely grind pecans with sugar in processor. Add butter and blend well. Firmly press crumb mixture onto bottom and up sides of a 9-inch tart pan with removable bottom. Bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes. Cool completely.

FILLING:
Bring cream to simmer in heavy medium saucepan. Reduce heat to low. Add chocolate and whisk until melted and smooth. Cool to lukewarm. Pour filling into crust. Refrigerate 30 minutes.

SAUCE:
Melt butter in heavy medium saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar and cook until deep golden brown, stirring occasionally, about 12 minutes. Add cream and whisk until smooth. Cool to lukewarm. Pour caramel over chocolate layer, sprinkle with chopped pecans and refrigerate several hours.

Cut tart into wedges.
