Watch the Caribbean Sailing Regattas in style aboard VOLTERRA

Charter yacht VOLTERRA, an 80-foot classic Palmer Johnson sloop, provides an excellent platform for watching the Caribbean Spring Regattas.

Charter Yacht Volterra - Crewed Caribbean Yacht Charters, Sailing Vacations

Here's some possibilities for the 2011 Caribbean sailboat racing season:
March 4-8|  Martinique|  Semaine Nautique
March 4-6|  St. MaartenHeineken Regatta
March 4-7|  Tortola|  Dark & Stormy
March 5-7|  MartiniqueCarnival Regatta
March 24-27|  St. BarthsSt. Barths Bucket
March 28-April 3  |  TortolaBVI Spring Regatta
April 4-9|  St. BarthsVoiles de St Barths *
April 14-19|  AntiguaAntigua Classic Yacht Regatta *
Volterra - Heineken Regatta 2009

Most yachts are available for charter during the various races and regattas as solely spectator boats (what better way to view the race than from a beautiful yacht while being pampered with fine food and spirits?) as the owners do not want the wear and tear that racing demands on their yacht.

That said, Volterra will consider a racing charter for the Voiles de St. Barths, and the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta... inquire !

VOLTERRA, an 80-foot classic Palmer Johnson sloop, was designed to circumnavigate the world safely in comfort and style. While she has indeed traced her stern wake around the globe, she has also distinguished herself on the race course in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic; Volterra finished first in the 1997 Transatlantic Challenge Race.

Designed by German Frers and John Alden, she is endowed with fast, classically  elegant lines, built by Palmer Johnson and solid cherry wood interior by John Munford.  She's a beauty!

Twin Guest Cabin

Volterra has a crew of three and accommodates up to six guests in three cabins. There are port and starboard guest cabins, each with two single beds and adjoining bathrooms with showers. Two additional bunks are provided in the main salon, enclosed by a privacy curtain. The owners cabin located midships offers two beds, one extends to a full queen sized bed. The owner's cabin also offers a comfortable settee with a fold down work desk and a well-appointed bathroom with shower stall.

Her large cockpit offers ample elbow room to an active racing crew as well as comfortable accommodations to owner and guests for a romantic dinner in the moonlight.

RATES: Winter 2011
  • $20,000/wk plus expenses for up to 6 guests; or
  • $21,600/wk for 4 guests & $22,000/wk for 6 guests; all inclusive, except bar, dockage...
Volterra is currently available for charter after February 26th.

BVI Spring Regatta and Around Virgin Gorda Race

This information about the 2009 BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, plus the Around Virgin Gorda Race is from SAIL-WORLD.COM

Although each year, the basic format remains the same, the organizers of BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival work hard to fine tune the event. This year’s edition, March 30 – April 5, is no exception with two innovative additions that will add value for the participants.

First, on the traditional Sailing Festival Layday, at the Bitter End Yacht Club, sailors will have the option to compete in the Around Virgin Gorda Race. Secondly, the BVI Customs Department has granted special dispensation to those yachts participating in the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival and will not be charging for cruising permits. Additionally, to expedite the clearing in and clearing out process, Masters can file electronically.

About the changes in the Bitter End Layday schedule, John Glynn, V.P. North American Sales, explained, 'Our intention is to now run the much anticipated Around Virgin Gorda Race (the 7th Annual) as part of the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, on Wednesday April 1st. There will be special prizes for Swans, and the top Swan will be recognized. Entry in BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival is not required.' He went on to say, 'In an interesting twist, racers in the Around VG Race this year will be given the option of going either way around the island. The current course record is just under three hours, held by the Swan 100S, Virago.'

In addition to BVI Customs and Immigration officials being on site at Nanny Cay from noon – 18.00 on Monday March 30 and Thursday, April 2nd, Customs will be waiving the Cruising Permit fee. The fee is $4 per person, per day, and with boats carrying anywhere between five to twenty crew members, the per day savings for visiting yachts will be anywhere between $20 - $80,

Wade Smith, BVI Customs Comptroller, also requested that visiting yachts entering the BVI, streamline the process for clearing in and out electronically. The Caribbean Pre-Arrival Notification system, eSeaClear, is a service that provides vessel operators the ability to submit electronic notifications of arrival to participating Customs offices in the Caribbean. Registered users can access the system to enter and maintain information about their vessel or vessels, crew and passengers. Prior to arrival at a new country the vessel operator simply ensures the information is accurate for the upcoming voyage and submits a new notification. eSeaClear was developed working closely with Customs to ensure that small vessel operators had a faster and more positive experience when clearing in and out of port.

Charter Yacht PACIFIC WAVE in the Caribbean

A couple of weeks ago, the charter yacht PACIFIC WAVE sailed to St. Maarten for the sole purpose of meeting Paradise Connections and to show their boat to us. Right there it shows that Lynn & Mark are really super people!

Charter Yacht PACIFIC WAVE - Contact ParadiseConnections.com

PACIFIC WAVE is new to charter this season 2008/2009. She had an extensive refit in the UK last summer (2008) and looks beautiful.

PACIFIC WAVE is a 72-foot Giorgetti & Magrini designed, Pesaro sloop which accommodates up to six guests in 3 cabins, each with ensuite head/shower. The full-width master cabin aft has two double berths and a private companionway into the aft cockpit. The other two guest cabins have twin-sized upper and lower berths (bunks).
Charter Yacht PACIFIC WAVE crew, Lynn & Mark
PACIFIC WAVE is owned and operated by the English couple Lynn Griffiths and Mark Miles. While they are both licensed captains, Lynn wears the Captain cap, and Marks dons the Chef hat. They are both avid and experienced sailors. Lynn is a keen golfer and an accomplished horsewoman. Among other talents, Mark is an airplane pilot.

We have created a web page with photos that we took aboard PACIFIC WAVE when we visited Lynn & Mark in Simpson Bay, St. Maarten in February 2009.
We received an email today from Lynn saying that PACIFIC WAVE will be stopping by St. Martin soon. We look forward to seeing them again.

We feel that it is a real benefit to our clients that we (Bob & Sheila at Paradise Connections Yacht Charters) are charter yacht brokers who live aboard our own sail boat amongst the charter yacht fleet. We see the boats in the anchorage and not just when they are prettied up for the various charter yacht shows. We also see the crew about town at stores, restaurants, boatyards, etc... We also hear the gossip on the local coconut telegraph :)

PACIFIC WAVE's plan for the remainder of this year is to remain in the Caribbean during Summer 2009, basing themselves down island in Grenada from July until the end of October. They will be based in Port Louis Marina, which has good air links, and will be available for charter.

In early November they will sail up to the British Virgin Islands for a confirmed Thanksgiving charter, and then return back to Antigua for the Yacht Charter Show in early December. After this time PACIFIC WAVE will be available for charter anywhere in the Caribbean.

We would like to point out that PACIFIC WAVE is available for the forthcoming Easter Holidays, and it is definitely not too early to start thinking about Christmas and New Year.
